Drills

Shooting.. catch & shoot drill..Start on the baseline with your back to the court, left or right side 1st, as both sides will be done. Karaoke,(if not familiar with the athletic term I will explain in person) down baseline to the sideline, then back pedal up the sideline to free throw line extended, plant your back foot and explode foward with hands ready to shoot as you catch the ball. Reps-10 per side

Similar drill but from the a step inside half court line..Start either left or right, as both sides will be done, facing the basket. Karaoke across designated line to the baseline then sprint to corner for catch and shoot jump shot. Depending on skill level or age, distance of shots will vary, as the shots can be inside or behind 3pt. line. Reps-10 per side

As the game is evolving, the catch and shoot player is now having to learn to put the ball on the floor to create his/her own shot more and more. So they have to be able to take one or two dribbles and get into their shot..take a mid range jump shot, which some thinks is a lost art, instead of either driving all the way to the basket or taking the longer 3pt. shot. Therefore learning to shoot off of a pump fake or jab step makes you harder to guard.

Off the dribble….Start in the middle of half court. Run to top of the key, catch the ball, pump fake then take one/two dribbles right and pull up for the shot. Repeat with catch, pump fake, then one/two dribbles left and pull up for shot. Then do same drill but instead of pump fake, use the jab step on both sides.

Just a few of the shooting drills that can improve the consistency and confidence of your shooting!
